Fifty years ago, in 1943, during the great war, the cataclysmic eruption of the Yellowstone supervolcano plunged the world into a relentless volcanic winter. Sunlight was choked from the sky, triggering catastrophic famines and climatic upheaval. Ecosystems collapsed, erasing 75% of Earth's species, while 90% of humanity perished in the aftermath.
In this bleak new world, chaos gave rise to totalitarian regimes, fervent religious sects, and violent militias, as disordered industrialization and desperate efforts at recovery only deepened societal rifts and inequalities.
